Ampere v2.18 Final [Pro]

Overview: Did you ever felt, that one Charger/USB cable set charges your device really fast and the other not? Now, you can prove this with Ampere.

Did you ever felt, that one Charger/USB cable set charges your device really fast and the other not? Now, you can prove this with Ampere.

Measure the charging and discharging current of your battery.

PRO features:
- Widgets
- Notification
- Alerts on device
- Alerts on Android Wear

The app works on Android 4.0.3+ devices. Not every device is supported because there are devices which lacks an appropriate measurement chip (or the interface) and they can not be supported at all. Please read the list of not supported phones at the end of the description.

The app is not meant to be mA accurate. It is only good for evaluate which Charger/USB cable combo is working the best for you on the same device.

Please read also the FAQ:

Start the app and wait ca. 10 seconds ("measuring" is on the display). After this time, the charging or discharging current will be shown.

The current depends on many things:
- Charger (USB/AC/Wireless)
- USB cable
- Phone type
- Current tasks running
- Display brightness
- WiFi state
- GPS state

Please don't use the readings on this app as concrete science. However, the readings are good enough to relatively measure how various chargers and USB cables fair on the same device.

If the app shows 0mA all the time, please use the settings option "Old measurement method". You can force the app with it to use the old measurement interface, if the Lollipop device has at least one.

Unfortunately some Samsung devices don't give correct (measured) values (e.g.: S5), just the maximum possible charging current with the actual USB cable/charger configuration. This is a firmware problem.

Background info: The app measures the charging/discharging current of the battery. If your phone is not connected to a charger, you see the discharging current which is negative. If you connect a charger then the current what the charger gives will be used to supply your phone and the remaining power will be charged into the battery.

If your phone consumes 300 mA without a charger connected (-300mA on the display), then a 500 mA charger will charge your battery maximum with 200 mA current (200mA on display).

Technical info: The displayed current is an average value from 50 measurements minus the 10 upper values and the 10 lower values. The displayed current can be shaky or unstable or even zero which means, that the Android system provides unstable values. Every company uses different battery types and other hardware making it difficult to get accurate results about your charger.

LiPo batteries don't draw the maximum for the full time it takes to charge the phone. If your battery is charged almost full then the charging current will be much less as by lower battery levels.

Phones/ROMS compatible only with "Old measurement method" switched on and selected the right "Measurement interface":
a?¤ HTC One M7 / M8
a?¤ LG G3

Phones/ROMS reported to be not working with this app:
a?¤ Galaxy Grand Prime - fortuna3gdtv
a?¤ Galaxy Note2 - t03g, t03gchn, t03gchnduos, t03gcmcc, t03gctc, t03gcuduos
a?¤ Galaxy S3 - d2att, d2spr, d2vmu
a?¤ Galaxy Tab4 7.0 - degas3g
a?¤ HTC Desire 510 - htc_a11ul8x26
a?¤ HTC One S (ville), X (endeavoru), XL (evita)
a?¤ HTC Sensation 4G - pyramid

Please do not give wrong rating, if your phone is one of the above. Not the app is wrong, but your phone does not support this kind of measurement yet.

If the app doesn't work on your device with pre-Lollipop Android version, then please read the first and the second posts in this XDA developer forum thread: . Please post your problem with screenshots in the XDA thread.

Free version not very useful

I can't see Ampere's usefulness. It doesn't track charging history, no graph, no min and max. Every time I'd check back after a while, hoping to see what had been happening to amperage over time, it started from scratch, detecting amps only for that moment, but no way to see how charging curve looks, or the max amps. I don't even see where paying for the upgrade gives me that. I'll look for a better app.

showing wrong info in android 6

it says my mobile is charging at 4200mah rate. my battery capacity is 1900 mah

Shmuel Meymann

Cool stuff. Nice estimation.

Great way to know if your charger is fast, or just claims to be fast. Accuracy is not the purpose. Indeed, it is pretty inaccurate (10mA discharge means 2400mAh/10mA=240h, which is unreasonable by 10x), but it is a fair indication for battery charging or discharging rate.

Matt Ross

Nice! Works well with my Motorola X Force, via standard USB and wireless charging. Not tried the fast charger yet but I'm sure it will also work.

Baran Tunç

Very useful app

It is a really good app only a minor bug: my voltage detected as 0.003 or 0.004 volts, other apps show it properly as 3.xx or 4.xx. And a line graph showing mA vs Time would be so useful.

Oriol Hidalgo

I don't know why but when I try to look at which speed my battery is discharging ot shows me that it's discharging at 0 mA, is there any way to fox this?

Best App To Have For Every Android Gadget Out there

Rolando Garcia

Exactly what I was looking for

For years I had to rely on oddball apps and widgets to get this same information. I'm very glad that someone finally made a straight to the point app for this!

Pablo Rodriguez

Awesome app

Great app to have, it's always nice to be able to show the manufacturer that I do have a bad battery specially when the battery is constantly overheating!

Santosh Kumar

Very nice app

App is very nice and useful. It does what it claims. If time remain while charging or discharge time can be added then it will be awesome. For this feature one star less otherwise its a 5 star.

Rick Stirling

Doesn't use system font setting

Have to get the magnifier out to read the widgets. Does not use system font setting or scale fonts when resizing widget. Makes it hard to read on 8" tablet. Did buy Pro to support dev. We need more innovative apps like this one.

Plamen C

Works on Samsung galaxy s5

I used Current Widget previously, but it is not working on Galaxy S5. Ampere works. Not compatible with Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but hardly any of them are.

Lou Sigety

Very Useful - 2016.03.09 update:

Update: Thanks for the notification improvements; nice. New styles are better, but I'd like less (selectable) info with bigger fonts. I'm only interested in things that change frequently: level, temp, plug. The rest could be offscreen via scrolling. Was: Exactly what I was looking for. The displaying of the net amperage of various power sources and cables vs. what your phone is using, is great for debugging HW/connections and SW.

Alex Casey

Great app, just wish it had the option to show an estimated remaining time on the battery

Jon Adair

Useful tool

Pretty useful to be able to tell which chargers and cables are preventing faster charging. I can't swear the numbers are perfectly accurate but they seem close enough for comparing chargers. Just bought the Pro IAP to unlock the charging widget.

Lendl Gardoce

Gives peace of mind

It's not my tablet! It's the cable/charger!

Chad Walker

Very useful. I've often wondered how fast my phone charging and at what level. The interface is clean, simple, and informative. Well done.

Brian Fareham

Probably inaccurate

I have my phone connected via a Charge Doctor gadget which tells me the current consumption. CD tells me 400 mA; this app tells me 1000 MA. One of them must be wrong and I think it's the app to judge by the charging time.

Pieter Wiese

Even better!

I like the new update. Great work.

Went to buy charging cable and this app really helped me to but the fastest 11000 ma max...thanks
